Mazatlán (home)
- Veteran coach Sergio Bueno was brought in to steady the ship in January 2026 following an unsuccessful interim stint by Christian Ramírez and his pragmatic, compact approach has not been a good fit for this squad.
- His tactics, thus far, have been to sit deep and absorb pressure while looking for set-piece or counterattack goals.
- It has not worked well in any of Mazatlan’s last five Liga MX fixtures, which have all ended in defeat to Juárez, Puebla, Chivas, Atlas and, most recently, Monterrey (1-5).
León (away)
- Ignacio Ambríz’s attack-minded philosophy is back in fashion at Leon after his reappointment as head coach in September 2025, but the club has not yet managed to string together any consistent good results this season.
- A 2-1 win over Santos last Saturday was an improvement on the 1-2 defeat to Tigres the week before, but there are still too many ‘up and down’ performances for the Green and White to climb into the Liguilla spots.
- There will be a significant contrast in the way these two sides approach the game with León favouring a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation, lots of width, high pressing and lots of off-the-ball movement, while Mazatlán prefer to sit in a narrow, deep block and force their opponents to work the ball out wide.
Head-to-Head
León have had the better of their recent head-to-head matchups with Mazatlán in Liga MX.
Key Players
- León’s attack has been more prolific than Mazatlán’s in 2026, with Diber Cambindo leading the Clausura scoring charts with 2 - 3 goals and the striker looking a real threat whenever he gets the ball in the box.
- The rest of Ambríz’s León attack has not been as reliable, with Fernando Beltrán a key playmaker who links defence to attack, while Bryan Colula and Ismael Díaz add pressing and width.
- Mazatlán’s goals have largely been provided by defenders or set pieces, with Almada, a defender, leading the team’s scoring charts this Clausura.
- Nicolás Benedetti remains their only true creative player, but his assist record is average for a number ten.

Betting Insights
- León (10 points, mid-table) will enter Saturday’s Clausura 2026 contest with Mazatlan FC (7 points, bottom half) as the slight favorites at 2.19, with the struggling home side available at 3.06 and a draw priced at 3.45.
- Both teams to score is favored at 1.62, which looks generous considering the open nature of past meetings and both sides’ vulnerabilities at the back.
Prediction
- Saturday’s game is likely to be decided by which team can maintain their discipline for the longest period of time with León having the superior attacking structure and rhythm.
- The coastal humidity may get to both teams in the second half, however, so we’re going with a narrow win for León, either 1-0 or 2-1.
