Atlético de San Luis
- The home side are hovering around 14th - 15th in the table with around mid-teens points, keeping them in the Play-In race, while Santos Laguna are 18th and bottom with just nine points and are virtually eliminated from playoff contention.
- San Luis’s style is to play a patient possession-based game and control the ball and pace of play.
- They have the midfield to serve João Pedro, who has been their talisman and one of the league’s top scorers.
- They’re a constant threat on set pieces with their talented midfielders and Pedro, who can strike at any time.
- Raúl Chabrand took over as interim boss recently and has done an excellent job of steadying the ship and making San Luis a tougher side to play against, even though they’ve had a mixed run of results since then.
- However, the 2-1 victory away at Monterrey in early April was a real statement from San Luis and with Pedro still in the running for the Golden Boot, they’ll be desperate to keep the momentum going on Thursday night.
Santos Laguna
- Omar Tapia also took over as boss on an interim basis for Santos in February, but his mission has largely been one of damage control.
- Santos have just one win from their last six competitive head-to-heads and Tapia has tried to get them to close up and remain compact in defense, with the aim of stemming the losing run.
- Santos Laguna are in a crisis run, suffering multiple defeats and rare draws in their last five Liga MX matches and are struggling for goals and defensively weak.
Head-to-Head
The hosts have dominated the recent Liga MX head-to-head, winning four of the last five meetings, including a 4-1 victory in September 2025.
Atlético de San Luis
They have the midfield to serve João Pedro , who has been their talisman and one of the league’s top scorers.
Santos Laguna
- Santos Laguna are an entertaining side who play in the style of the famous Santos of Pelé’s day, led by their captain and star goalkeeper, Carlos Acevedo, who has been one of the few players to shine in this difficult campaign.
- In Fran Villalba and Ezequiel Bullaude, they have a pair of midfielders who can be creative in attack, but their forwards haven’t been consistent all season long and they’ve lacked the clinical edge to punish their opponents.
Betting Insights
- The odds of the home team at 1.75 are short, but Santos at 4.03 seems exceptionally generous.
- There should be goals in this one, as Over 2.5 goals is priced at 1.49 and Both Teams to Score is 1.52, which seems a bit short in my opinion given how weak the visitors are defensively and how much of San Luis’s strength is their attack.
Prediction
While the visitors will try to cause an upset, the odds still heavily favour the hosts here, and the recent history suggests this is a San Luis win .
